Youth Volunteer Corps of Reading’s Canstructure Contest is a structure building competition to fight hunger. Teams of Berks County youth, assisted by STEM mentors, compete in a contest to build incredible structures made entirely from cans of food collected during individual food drives. Following the competition, all canned food is donated to the Helping Harvest Food Bank. Students engage in a fun team building activity while learning about STEM concepts and food scarcity in our area. Last year, over 170 students on 14 different teams participated which ultimately resulted in over 20,000 lbs of food being donated to help feed the hungry in Berks and Schuylkill Counties.
